Snow Days and School Closings
Should it be necessary to close school because of weather or other emergency conditions an announcement will be made over Allentown, Reading and Easton radio stations. An announcement will be made before 7:15 AM if school will not be open or there will be a delay. A recorded message will also be on the school phone (610-967-3701). Please proceed according to the instructions from the school district in which you live.
If there is any doubt in your mind about the schools being closed or delayed, tune in any of the radio stations, or WFMZ TV CHANNEL 69 and Philadelphia Channel 10. DO NOT CALL THE STATIONS, your call will tie up the station circuits.
It requires time during such emergencies to gather all the available information before a decision can be reached. Since the residence and school office phones of the Head of School will be in use, please do not call and tie up telephone lines.
If the school has an emergency closing during the school day, please listen to the radio for information on closing time. In this instance, if you are unsure of dismissal times, you may call the school, or log onto www.wfmz.com.

In the event your school district has a delay and Hillside does not your child will not be penalized for being late. Your district will still provide late transportation to Hillside.
In the event Hillside has a delay and your school district does not, your home district is not required to provide late transportation. You should make other transportation arrangements. In most instances the Hillside building will not be open to accept students who arrive early.

Keeping you informed is a top priority at The Hillside School. That’s why we have adopted the ALERTNOW Notification Service which will allow us to send a telephone message to you providing important information about school closings in an emergency. In the event of an emergency at school, you can have peace of mind knowing that you will be informed immediately by phone.
What You need to know about receiving calls sent through ALERTNOW
Caller ID will display the school’s main number when an announcement is delivered.
Be sure to say “Hello” when you answer the phone. The technology must hear a voice to deliver.
ALERTNOW will leave a message on any answering machine or voicemail.
