Photos of Hillside School Students The mission of the Hillside School Library Media Center is to serve as a gateway to the world of traditional (printed) and non-traditional (electronic) information for all of the students, staff, and parents at the school.

The library media center in any school should be the heart of the school. The school’s curriculum, teaching, and activities all rely on what is housed in the library and the ability of its patrons to use those materials.

Our main goal, at the Hillside School Library Media Center, is to educate our students so that they can become information literate members of society. They will learn how to effectively seek and use authoritative information for a variety of purposes so that they develop a lifelong love of acquiring knowledge.

Additionally, we want to provide the students, staff, and parents with a safe and pleasant environment where they can use their information skills to find fiction and non-fiction materials suitable for a variety of educational and pleasure reading purposes at a variety of reading levels.

Our students have library once each week. The children have a wide variety of fiction & non-fiction books, magazines, and other media to browse through. Grades K – 2 are allowed to borrow 2 books each week. Grades 3 – 6 are allowed to borrow 3 books each week. The books are due back the following week.

We try to offer reading material that will intrigue the students and make them want to pick up something to read. We also try to get them involved in other activities that will spark their curiosity and make them want to read to get answers to their questions. Through the World Wildlife Fund we have adopted an endangered Arctic Fox named Max. Our fourth grade students are doing research projects on other endangered animals available through the World Wildlife Fund.  Other activities include lunch time book clubs for 4th, 5th and 6th grade and a reading review club that children in any grade can join.
